toilet training | parents flyer

Many parents are unsure when it comes to the issues of cleanliness and drying out. After all, all parents want to do everything right. With our information for parents you are well informed about both topics.

What it means to get CLEAN and DRY

For children, becoming sober is an important milestone in the personal development process. Accordingly, many cognitive and social processes take place in the first years of life.
But it is precisely the social framework conditions that have an influence on the development of cleanliness. In countries such as the Ivory Coast or other African countries, babies are sometimes “put on the potty” after the umbilical cord has fallen off, while children in Canada sometimes wear diapers up to the age of four and this is nothing unusual there. Therefore, personal and individual cleanliness development is also a cultural process.
For our children, on the other hand, becoming dry is an expression of autonomy and growing up. In this way, children can influence their own bodies. This makes the children proud and contributes to a healthy self-awareness.

INTERPRET signs correctly

Children have to go through different developmental stages to become sober. Therefore, approach the topic in a relaxed and calm manner. Pay attention to different signs of your child such as certain movement sequences, facial changes or verbal expressions. Older children also like to imitate their parents. Some children also point to their genitals. So pay attention to your child’s signals and try to express them verbally.

Step by step

Just as Rome was not built in a day, the development of cleanliness is a process that always takes place differently depending on the child.

As previously mentioned, children always develop individually. Nevertheless, certain milestones can be identified. The voluntary, i.e. targeted control of urination develops in children between the ages of two and four. This takes time as the child’s nervous system needs to develop.
Of course, in addition to the physical requirements, the mental maturity of the child also plays an important role. After all, the child has to connect the physical stimulus with the topic of the toilet and ultimately also communicate this to us parents or teachers.

Quite an achievement that our children have achieved here. In addition, there is often a quick desire to dry off, be it from yourself or from the environment. But the desire of us adults can go in the wrong direction so quickly. Because too much pressure and starting toilet training too early can cause psychological problems, for example, which can lead to rewetting or holding back the chair. It is much better to support the child in its development. Offer the toilet and praise the child after using the toilet. In the summer, thick clothing is also a thing of the past. A good time to skip the diaper during the day.
