The making of a large finger puppet (the star)

Age range: 4-6 years

Figure finger puppet: a star

Synopsis: The star travels in the planetary system of our sun to visit all planets

Step by step

  1. Create a star in Word, enlarge it to A4 size and print it out
  2. Cut out the printed star
  3. Select the appropriate fabric and transfer the outline of the star onto the fabric
  4. Repeat step 3 so that there are a total of 2 fabric stars.
  5. Lay both pieces on top of each other, fix with pins and sew together with a seam. Leave the lower part of the star open.
  6. Put another piece of fabric over your finger and mark on the lower side.
  7. Fill the star with filler material.
  8. The finger piece is now sewn into the lower area and pressed into the inner area of the star so that the finger can hold and move the star.
  9. Now the two buttons are sewn onto the star as eyes.
  10. If desired, the pointed corners can be narrowed as ears or made more visible with additional fabric.
  11. The finger puppet star is ready.

Necessary materials

  • Fabric for outside & inside
  • 2 buttons for the eyes
  • Sewing thread in a matching color
  • Needles, pins and fabric scissors for sewing and cutting
  • Star template with paper to cut out the shape

The star, a short story of language development

Hello dear children,

it’s me, the star. Today I traveled to you to tell you something. Because I always travel up there in the sky, from one star to another. That’s pretty exciting.

We are on earth right now. When I flew to you, I saw a moon! Do you know this one? Have you seen it before? Most of the time you can always see him very well at night. Then when the sun is about to go to sleep.

Yesterday, before I went to see you guys, I went to Mars. It’s a pretty dusty and red planet. I took a short break there and ate an ice cream. Mmm, that was delicious, I can tell you. Do you like to eat ice cream too?

I heard you also have a group called Saturn with you? Is that correct? Wow, great! Saturn is a very exciting planet. It has really big rings around its belly. Almost like a pair of pants on your stomach. Which of you is wearing pants? Are you dressed as well as Saturn?

Oh dear, I completely forgot the time. It’s so late already. Because I still want to fly to Jupiter. Oh dear, you also have a group of Jupiter with you. Maybe I have to visit these children someday too. Then I have to go now.

Because I want to take a short break and eat a delicious ice cream on earth. Then I’ll say goodbye and wish you a lot of fun.

Goodbye dear children.
