General info

The alla hopp! Playground of the Dietmar Hopp Foundation in Speyer has been a real adventure playground, especially for older children, since 2017. Climbing, shimmying, fitness equipment, as well as caves and cages offer every child’s heart more joy. In addition to the available fitness equipment, there is also free parking for parents and a short distance to the Rhine. So ideal conditions for a family outing. For children under 3 to 4 years, the alla hopp! Playground in Speyer only conditionally suitable, since there are neither slides nor sandbox or similar play offers. The playground is clearly designed for older children as well as teenagers.

Address: Dr.-Eduard-Orth-Straße, Speyer (opposite a soccer field of FV Speyer).

GPS data: N 49.32617, E 008.43988

Opening hours: 9-21 h, but only until nightfall

How to get there: You can get there by public transport or by car. I clearly recommend the journey with your own car or in the summer by bike. There is also an air station for bicycles on site. For those who want to come by public transport, bus lines 566 and 567 are available.

Play areas: Parkour facility, trail stairs, sensory element buzz stone, footpath with fitness equipment, micro forest, slackline, fitness trail, exercise area, climbing hill with shipping container, play pavilion with water feature, pendulum swing, nature experience area, family carousel, exercise trail, trampoline hill, energy bike, boules court,

Toilets: available, with changing area

Offers of the playground

As already mentioned above, the offers are mainly aimed at older children as well as young people. The idea behind the alla hopp! facilities is the intergenerational encounter in sports and games. Quasi the common experience of movement and sport. This is what this playground clearly offers in my view. Every time we visit the playground, we get to talk with young and old, people exchange ideas and enjoy the visit to the playground.

For children, the playground offers great and certainly not so common in the area. The emphasis here is clearly placed on training gross motor skills, the sense of balance and the social aspect. Many game areas are, depending on the selected difficulty level and age, usually only together completely masterable.

This quickly gives rise to game ideas such as using the carousel, flying to the moon as a rocket or playing police and criminals and thereby converting the shipping container with the cage as a prison. Even running wheel races are possible on the concreted part of the movement area. In short, the children can put their skills to the test here and grow from the challenges.

Benches are available for longer trips. Still, many bring your blanket and make themselves comfortable on the floor. We ourselves, for example, without realizing it, quickly spend 3 to 4 hours on the playground.

I have not found any harsh criticisms on the playground so far. There is minor damage to the trampoline hill (orange rubber partially torn off) and the concrete areas are sprayed with graffiti. However, so far this has not led to any restrictions in the game layout. Therefore, these are rather to be seen as an optical defect and are certainly difficult to avoid in the children’s and youth sector. Trash cans are available in sufficient numbers and, at least it looks like, are emptied regularly. I have not discovered many broken glass, discarded syringes or similar objects there so far.

Impressions of the playground

If you have smaller children or are looking for a shadier spot in the summer, you’re well catered for at the adventure playground in Dudenhofen, for example. This playground is located by and in the woods and offers great playground equipment for big & small kids, including several slides. A journey by car or a bicycle tour are obligatory here!

Another, but also smaller alternative is the Speyer playground between Rheinallee and Messplatz. However, this one is also interesting only for younger children.
